Sunset Again

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

Yesterday was yet another amazing sunset while driving in traffic. I was behind buildings and it too me forever to pass a spot where I could actually see it properly and sadly it was a little too late to get the actual sun before it said goodnight but I really like this a lot anyway.Sunset as seen across the freeway in midrand photographed by marcus maschwitz

SA Photographers On a Sunday

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Yesterday we had our second excursion as the SA Photographers Group and it was super fun even though we got rained out. Basically, a group of our friends has decided to try and go on little photography excursions at least once a month and then all post one photograph from the day that we can all crit on and hopefully this will help us all to learn a bit more and be excited about shooting.

Visit the site by clicking here and comment if you get the chance.

Hope you are all well and thank you so much for reading. MSA photographers excursion to wits university photographed by marcus maschwitzSA photographers excursion to wits university photographed by marcus maschwitz

Traffic Pain

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

I have this obsession with the sky, clouds and the sun so any sunset or sunrise is always exciting for me. I was stuck in traffic, like every other person always is I am sure, and have finally decided to try an chill out and rather shoot photographs while I putt along at 10km/h. I shot a bunch of this sunset but this is my favourite.

I also want to say that my actual photography portfolio site is starting to look like something. It is taking ages to get it done right but I am really liking it so far. Please head over to www.marcusmaschwitz.com if you get a gap and please comment on my photographs and let me know what you think. There is still a lot to be added and a lot to be worked out but it would definitely give me more reason to get it done if you like it.

Hope you’re all well and having a good week. Chat soon, mA beautiful sunset is always a good way to ease the pain of traffic photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

Nelson Mandela Bridge

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

These shots are of Nelson Mandela Bridge. The sun was already higher than I had wanted to shoot these at so I am not really that happy with them. I definitely will be going back soon to try these again.

Trains in Newtown

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

The whole reason we went to Newtown was so that I could shoot photographs of the trains and the railway lines under the Nelson Mandela Bridge. Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

I shot these two photographs on Easter sunday. It was super good to spend it with the family and just relax it for a bit. Sunset over the Vale

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Sunset yesterday was super cool. Hasn’t been like that in a while. I shot these while I was driving. Can you get a fine for shooting photographs while driving a car? HahaCloudy sunset over the vale photographed by Marcus MaschwitzCloudy sunset over the vale photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

Johannesburg in Fisheye

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

I was asked the other day by a new stock images company to contribute some of my work to their database so I have been going through all my photographs from the passed to see what I think would work well for them. The people heading it up are super cool and the website is www.tickyboximages.co.za but the site is still being loaded at the moment so it isn’t completely finished yet. They are targeting to market photographs specifically of Africa and this is really exciting for me because it makes me want to go out and shoot more in my free time and not just shoot stuff for my clients.

Hope you’re all well. M

Moo

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

We saw a million cows eating in a field on the way to George and stopped to shoot photographs. I shot a whole bunch but want to go to bed so am only going to post this one for now. The sky was just clearing up from a crazy storm and the light peeping through the clouds was really so weird and like I had never seen before for that time of day (11am). I was able to get so close and the cows weren’t too nervous. I really like these shots and want to maybe print them as a set for something.

Monkey Land

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

We went to visit Monkeyland on thursday on our way down to visit our friends in Jefferey’s Bay and it was really such a fun visit. I got killed by the mosquito’s which really is the worst thing ever but Monkey Land is amazing otherwise. Check it out if you in the area cause it is so good but be sure to bring that insect repellent.

Chicken sauce at uShaka

Monday, January 7th, 2008

First off, this is my first blog for 2008. I am sorry for being so quiet but my work was crazy and so was all the festivities over this time. Anyway, it was a good one and I hope you all agree. Best wishes to you all and may this year be a super one for you.

I was in Durban for a bit and just got back this morning only to fly out again tomorrow to shoot in Knysna for a few days. I took the misses to uShaka Marine World on one of my free days and thought I would shoot something to put up here. I really love these pictures of her looking into the fish tanks at the aquarium. She’s cute.

I also want to brag and say that I got myself the new Nikon D3 for Christmas and it just arrived so I am going to abuse it over the next few days down at the coast. I really am so excited about this camera and have been waiting for it for way too long now. So far it is really amazing and lives up to everything I expected. I will blog more about it later. Yay for my new toy even though I am more broke than ever imaginable.

Bemo’s Palace

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

Going to post some photos now from thursday. I went to Bemo’s house cause the dudes were playing some music and I wanted to hang out. This is just a cool pic that I shot from the entrance to their house. NiceThe entrance at Bemos palace photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

Cape Town at night

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

I forgot I shot this photograph when I was last in Cape Town and saw it now and really liked it. I remember how nervous I was parking on the bridge at night and shooting so I never stayed long. I really wish it was safer here to try this out more.Night shot on a freeway in Cape Town photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

Night of 1000 Drawings

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Tonight was the Night of 1000 Drawings evening and it was really awesome. The guys really do put together an amazing event for a good cause. I contributed 6 photographs again but they were put together in a rush which I don’t feel good about as I really wanted to shoot something unique just for the event. Anyway, these are the six and they were all shot on my trip to Taiwan at the beginning of last year when I went to visit the misses as she was teaching English there for the year. 12 November 2007

Monday, November 12th, 2007

For some reason the sunset has been amazing a few days in a row. It’s great but now I look like a sunset addict or something. Haha. I shot this about 5 minutes ago off the roof again and really love the way the clouds look and the sun rays.

On a different note, going to see NOFX now so hopefully I will sneak my camera in and be able to shoot some stuff to post tomorrow. Have a good evening. M

Wilderness Sky

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

I was shooting in Wilderness and Knysna over the weekend for a client but cannot show any of the stuff until it all goes out first. Anyway, I couldn’t believe that it was my first trip down there and I really think that it is the most beautiful side of South Africa I have ever seen. I shot this photo around lunch time on sunday directly into the sun just because I have a thing for the clouds and sky.

Flying home from George

Monday, November 5th, 2007

I was working in Wilderness / Knysna this weekend shooting for a new guesthouse that will be opening up this month called iKhaya Wilderness. It was my first time down there and it really is amazing. Anyway, I flew back today with Nationwide Airlines and it was the craziest Scenic flight I have ever had. I love flying. Here are 3 shots I took of us breaking through the stormy clouds with the sunset peaking through while ascending. The first two are between the clouds looking into the sun and the last one was taken as we were on top of the clouds with the sun shining under neath them. I shot this photo the other day of myself driving in my car. Her name is Carrie and she is really special. Haha.Driving in my car Carrie around town photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

Johannesburg Sunset

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

The sunset tonight was really amazing over Johannesburg. I sadly wasn’t close enough to town to get the photo I would really have liked to shoot so this one will have to do. I just photographed it from my roof after getting a call from the misses to have a look.

Signal Hill

Monday, October 15th, 2007

For some reason the weather in Cape Town is always amazing when I am there. Friday was another day like that so we drove up to the top of Signal Hill just to enjoy the view and I shot these two photographs of a tree with some guinea fowl running free with the ocean in the background. I understand why tourists love it there.

Cloudy Sunset in Lakeside

Monday, October 15th, 2007

I shot these photographs during another shoot. I have this thing for sunsets and even more for clouds so I had to try and capture some of what was going on.

Kalk Bay Door

Monday, October 15th, 2007

I was down in Cape Town for business with my friend Alan on thursday and we did a bit of driving around and shooting in between call times. There was this old looking door that I noticed but it was really hard to shoot because of a million cars passing by. These are the two shots I managed to get while avoiding being knocked over.

My Red Shoes

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

I was skating on Friday afternoon and had the hardest slam I have had in AGES. It really wasn’t cool at all but I know it won’t stop me still. Maybe I just forget what it feels like to fall. Hoping for sure that it is a LONG time before I do that again. Anyway, I took to the bench and watched for the last 30 minutes of our session and took some photos of my shoes on the grand stand. I had to take them off cause I was hurting so bad but thought these looked quite different. I do have to add that I shot these with Rudi’s Canon which is kind of a sin because I am a Nikon boy. Hahaha. They came out quite good though.

Sunday Gardening Session

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

I shot these photographs on sunday in my dad’s garden at the dam. He’s so proud of it and it really is starting to take shape. I posted some photos of it a year ago so I thought I would just post these two a year later. I messed around with my macro lens for a bit and couldn’t believe how strong the colours were in the direct sunlight.

London

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I have been running around London like a fool for the last few days and it’s been really amazing. The weather was perfect every single day and everything just worked out as best as it could’ve. I sadly bumped my camera off a bridge into the Thames so my shooting stopped a bit earlier than planned. That was the dumbest thing I have ever done. Shame, my poor camera.

Brighton

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I went to Brighton on thursday with Nik and Keli Jones and it was my first time there. It really is such a cool little town with a ton of interesting stores. The water was flatter than at the dam I go to. Awesome.

Tattoo Day

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Jude got his sleeve finished off on saturday and I shot a few photo’s. I cant remember the details of the place so I will add that a bit later. Yogie was the tattoo artist and he is from Mexico. He really was such an interesting guy.
