We decided to continue enjoying the snow on thursday night after a good previous night and headed out with our snowboards and some lights and set up our own little session near Croydon after midnight and even ended up building a small jump which Jason hit a few times in the complete dark (thanks to me forgetting to charge the lights fully).
It was one of my funnest nights in a while thanks to Jason and Jude and some frozen powdered water.

Today I woke up early to fly to Sun City for Breakfast and to shoot some photos in the sky. These are a few that I shot during the time. Love the sky.

So I have been working like crazy lately which is a good thing but I hate that I have so much new work to show and no where to show it. I mean, I really liked the way my old website looked but it really just was too much distraction as apposed to just showing off the photographs. It’s always hard to think of the best way to showcase online because I do not like Flash based websites purely because I have seen so many people having issues using them and in the end I think I wanted to make sure that mine would be as user friendly as possible. The website I had also never allowed me to put the photos up at a decent size so with all this in mind I have created a new one from scratch and although I am still filtering through photographs and updating the content, there is a good amount up so that I can release it.
If you have a chance, make sure to check out www.marcusmaschwitz.co.uk and have a look. As I said I am still busy uploading content so keep checking back.
This is a screen grab of the home page, hope you like.

Earlier this month I was booked to shoot Bloc Party’s live show in Brighton and seeing as they are one of her favourite bands we decided to make a day of it. We rented a smart car (which ended up being a ton of fun on its own) and then drove down for a day in a place that we really love a lot. Later that afternoon we made our way to the venue for one of the best shows that I have worked at this year. It was a good time.
Below is a photo of my girl with our smart car in Devils Dyke and then 3 of my most liked images from the show.
I hope you are all well. Marcus

My misses and I spent a few days in Belgium this week and it was our first time there but definitely not our last. It was super cool and we had a really good time. My worst part about traveling is that I battle to shoot photographs because I hate shooting a photo of a spot just because we are there as most of the time that is when the light is absolutely terrible and there is normally a million tourist around just getting in the way. Haha. I sound so stupid moaning but it really is hard for me because I want to capture the places we see but I don’t want to just shoot happy snaps. It’s really hard for me but I did shoot quite a few on some 120 film which I will process soon but I thought I would post these few which I do actually like.
These were taken in Brussels and Bruges.

A few weeks ago, the editor from Bluntmag regarding my photograph and the work that I am doing in the music industry here in London. I always feel weird with stuff like this because I don’t ever want to come across arrogant or anything like that because I don’t think I am “cool” for doing what I do, I just love it so much.
Anyway, you can read the interview (please do) online for free at http://www.bluntmag.co.za/people/features/?article_id=2317. I think it came out pretty cool and it contains some information about how I started out. It was fun thinking back to those days.
Below is the front page of the article as well as some of the band photographs that feature in the article (including Bloc Party, Papa Roach, Rise Against, Swivelfoot, Zebra and Giraffe, Taking Back Sunday, Nofx, Juliette Lewis and The Gaslight Anthem). I hope you like it. Please let me know what you think.
Chat soon, Marcus

Last week my friend Warren and I took a walk down the river around the South Bank area just to catch up one night. We both took our camera’s too shoot some happy snaps of the city but it was so full up with people that it made it really hard to shoot without either getting in the way or getting other people in the shots (which I really didn’t want) so I only ended up shooting a few.
It was an amazing night and I am feeling motivated to do this kind of thing more and wait for the right time to shoot so that I get the image I am looking for as apposed to just shooting because I want a photo. I really like the first one the most – no matter how cliche’d it is and how many times I imagine it to be shot already. It was quite hard because we also had limited night time considering that the first image I shot for the night was of big ben around 10pm and the sky was still light and the last tube out back home was about 2 hours later. It’s really amazing that the days are so long.

Today was the 7th month anniversary since my lady and I got married. I know it may seem silly to celebrate the monthly’s but we are so excited on each other and it keeps us happy and going. Anyway, today we came to the beach and just enjoyed another really special and fun day in the sun together. I also decided to shoot a few photographs of us playing the fool and it ended up being quite a laugh.
These are just a few of the photographs that we took together. I hope you all had a good weekend and that the short week flies by for you all. M

We were driving back from the store a few minutes ago and the sunset is amazing so I had to shoot a photograph of it from our bedroom window as soon as we got back. I love the streams that the aircrafts leave in the sky.
I hope that everyone reading this is well.

I spent sunset today walking over the Waterloo Bridge and taking it all in. I love the London skylines and this is definitely one of my favourite, with the view of the London Eye, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and the River. I have always wanted to shoot some good photographs but my time has always been limited so I have promised myself that I will be pulling finger from now on. I shot this photo today and am quite happy with it, it isn’t what I had in mind but I will make sure to keep scouting for that perfect day.
I hope that you are all well and that 2009 is treating you well so far. M

Today I spent the day walking around Camden Town with my lady and as always, it was a fun time with her. The weather was good and there was a lot of people out. I shot this photo, just because it makes me so excited every time I see that from the road and I know we are walking in the right direction. Haha.

We will be staying with our friends, Nik and Keli, for a while so that we can find our feet and I shot some photographs at the station yesterday while we made our way into London Town for the day. The weather is PROPER cold but it really feels good to snuggle up all warm. These are just a few photographs. Might be quiet until I sort all my gear out again.

We flew out of South Africa on New Years Eve and it was a really good flight. Emirates rules on the entertainment side and it makes the flight feel really short.
Anyway, we have arrived in London safely are are both really excited. LOTS to do but we are cracking already. Hold thumbs and all the best for the new year ahead. Thank you to everyone for your warm wishes.

As I keep mentioning, we are moving to the UK at the end of this month and I decided to take my misses to the Kruger National Park for 8 nights to go and enjoy what Africa is all about and shoot some photographs and really just relax. It is ALWAYS the best time.
These are a few of the photographs. I shot about 900 and do not have time to sort through them so am just uploading these for now. I know I have a bunch of better ones and some really amazing sunsets and skies but I just wanted to get something up.
Hope you are all well and getting excited about the Christmas time.
Keep well as always, Marcus

As anyone who follows my work will know, I have a thing for sunsets and they sky and clouds. I nag my poor wife everyday to look at the sky and I can see her expression everytime. Today though, I felt like I should really make sure she looks and she agreed, it really was one of the best skies I have ever seen before. If only we were in the bush or something. Anyway, I shot these 4 photographs of the sunset as well as a super cool panoramic which I will post when I have stitched it.
Have a super week, Marcus

I have been shooting quite a few photographs with my lomo cameras to play around and really love the way that they come out. I had a bunch processed yesterday and thought that I should post these three of us driving because they are my favourite. Explore lomo photography if you haven’t, it’s really fun and anyone will love the results.
I shot these with a Lomo Supersampler.

Another scene on our ride to the dam. I loved this and really wanted to shoot a bunch more photographs of it but I ALWAYS feel so bad shooting photographs of people in their daily routine because I don’t want them to think that I am thinking I am better than them. Not sure if that makes sense.
Anyway, have a super week. Marcus

I was driving with Rudi this afternoon and the sunset was really amazing. I was so upset because I never had my camera with me which is always the case when there is an amazing sunset or something worth taking a photo of. Rudi had his with him in the car so I convinced him to let me shoot a photo with it so that I could update my blog because I really want the updates on here to become a lot more consistant.
I promised that I would say that this picture was taken with a Canon Eos 30D with a Sigma 10-20mm lens. I was really interested to see how the Canon Raw images come out and how it is to work with them and I can honestly say that I like this a lot.
Anyway, that is my boring story for the day. A few of us are going to do some offroading tomorrow and I am hoping to shoot a bunch of photographs which I will post if I do.
Hope you are all well as always, Marcus

My new wife and I are moving to the UK at the end of this year and we had to find a place to live for the next two months. We made a super cool little home and are loving living there together. This is the sunset from yesterday.

I just got back from honeymoon with my beautiful misses (Anja) and we had a super time away. I know this may sound really crazy but I decided to REALLY take time off and have a proper break so I left all my camera gear at home. We ended up seeing so much cool stuff worth photographing so I ended up actually just regretting my decision. I took some happy snaps with Anja’s point and shoot but its hard not being able to change the settings and having to rely on the scene modes. Haha. Was a good time regardless and now I am DYING to shoot again.

I just got back from touring London and Frankfurt (Germany) with my dad and it was amazing. I really love the time I get to spend in Europe and cannot wait to be back there again soon. This photograph is just on of a tall tree in a forest in Frankfurt and I really like it.
I have just launched my new portfolio site and even though it still has a lot of work that needs to be done on it, you can see it on www.marcusmaschwitz.com.
I hope you are all well and want to thank you for the support, comments and feedback I have been receiving of late. It has inspired me plenty to try and create good things for you to see. Please feel free to comment and keep in touch. M

I shot this skyline of Johannesburg the other day from the rooftop of my friends building during sunset. I was busy with a shoot and saw this and ran up to catch a shot. The sun goes down super quickly in winter though.

Ok, I have to admit that I have been slack and that these photographs should have been up ages ago. It’s just been ridiculously busy here and I am trying to save for a wedding so please excuse me. Haha.
I am still busy but just missing this getaway so much so took a bit of time to do this post. Basically, Anja and I hit the Kruger Park last month for my birthday and it was one of the most super holidays I have ever had. I loved it. I loved the bush. I loved the animals. I loved where we stayed. I loved shooting photos. I loved relaxing. I loved being with my girl. I loved that she got to relax and I loved being werry werry quite. Haha.
These aren’t the best ones cause I don’t really have time so I randomly selected some from the 2500ish photos that I shot. Either way, seeing them just makes me want to be back there right now.
Hope you are all well.

I was just in Kruger for a week with my misses and it was one of my best getaways ever. I really wanted to shoot photographs of wildlife as I haven’t done that properly before and loved it more than I could haveve imagined. I have a bunch of photographs from the trip (about 2200) and have a lot of catching up to do with work so will sort through them over the next few days and post some up here for you to see. We were really lucky and our hawk eyes served us well for spotting.
Anyway, it stormed on Thursday night and we were staying on the Crocodile River with my parents and I got to shoot 2 photographs before the lightning stopped. I really like this one.
Hope you are all well. M

Ok, this is the last photograph I am going to post from the weekend. During the shoot at Top Star yesterday, Alan and I decided to climb to the top of the Driving Screen which we did. It was SUPER dodgy and I cannot believe we are still alive and un-injured but we did it and I had to shoot a photograph at the top. I had an experimental weekend where I tried to basically break my camera gear by changing all the settings even more than I normally do and this was another result of that. The skyline was quite boring because of the time of day it was so I white balanced way off and then underexposed a bit as well as change a few otehr settings on camera. I have to go back and shoot a sunset there one day. I will, you’ll see. Haha

I have already posted a photograph of this street light before and I think that photograph worked well, but when I was shooting there again on saturday, the sky was super cloudy but so boring and grey. I decided to try something different and I shot this photograph with the white balance WAY off so that it would result in the entire photograph being blue. I like it.
