KFD Tattoo Series

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Over the years I have worked really closely with the guys from KFD Skateboards and it has always been a really good time. Recently I was contacted by a designer from California named Quoc Lu as he was wanting to build up his portfolio to break into the action sports scene and he used 3 of my photographs to put together an ad campaign for his portfolio.

I almost forgot about it and then he sent me back these three images which I really like. He did some research on the product and used the Tattoo Series as his basis for the ads and I thought I would post them because I also really love these 3 photographs that I shot of the guys.

Website Launch

Friday, November 13th, 2009

So I have been working like crazy lately which is a good thing but I hate that I have so much new work to show and no where to show it. I mean, I really liked the way my old website looked but it really just was too much distraction as apposed to just showing off the photographs. It’s always hard to think of the best way to showcase online because I do not like Flash based websites purely because I have seen so many people having issues using them and in the end I think I wanted to make sure that mine would be as user friendly as possible. The website I had also never allowed me to put the photos up at a decent size so with all this in mind I have created a new one from scratch and although I am still filtering through photographs and updating the content, there is a good amount up so that I can release it.

If you have a chance, make sure to check out www.marcusmaschwitz.co.uk and have a look. As I said I am still busy uploading content so keep checking back.

This is a screen grab of the home page, hope you like.

Oldy of Jeff

Friday, November 7th, 2008

I shot this photograph of Jeff Mouton quite a while back but I totally forgot about it. I like it because of the way that the tree is lit up so here it is. I really want to go shoot skate photos in the night now.

Have a good weekend all, M

Dean Back Salad

Monday, September 1st, 2008

I shot a photo with my buddy Dean yesterday at sunset just because I love that guy. Here is one of them.

Found a place to move to today. Yay, hope its alright. Will take some photos later.

Have a good day, Marcus

Sunset with Dean Marais

Monday, June 9th, 2008

My chest has packed up as it always seems to do this time of the year so that means no skateboarding for me for a while. Its really not that fun and laying in bed really isn’t my best thing to do. Decided to use some of the time yesterday to shoot with Dean at Skateworld in Edenvale and I am so glad I did. We didn’t shoot too much because the sun sets super quick in winter and we only got there late. Anyway, these two photos are of Dean front blunting the yellow barrier I picked up a while back. His style is so so so good. Definitely going to shoot with him a lot more in the future and know this kid is going to make it big some day.Dean Marais front blunt on a barrier at skateworld in edenvale photographed by marcus maschwitzDean Marais front bluntslide at skateworld in edenvale photographed by marcus maschwitz

Session Issue 30

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

I shot an am’s article with Seth for the last issue of Session Skateboarding Magazine and now that it comes off shelf, I can post them on here. The first and second photographs were used in the article and then the third is just a sequence of his flip front board. The still is way nicer though.seth campbell kickflip frontside boardslide at skateworld in edenvale for session magazine photographed by marcus maschwitzPortrait of Seth Campbell for session magazine photographed by marcus maschwitzskateworld kickflip front board sequence photographed by marcus maschwitz

Warehouse Sessions

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Lately, Rudi and I have tried skateboarding again and the only thing that always puts me off is the “cool” dudes and the rubbish park facilities we have in South Africa. We decided a while back to try and make our own plan and make some obstacles that we could use by ourselves and not have to worry about everything else. This is a box we made and the photo is of Rudi doing one of his textbook crooked grinds on it in our secret warehouse. Got Milk ?

Friday, March 28th, 2008

My friend Simon has FINALLY started his own photography blog after way too long. I was looking at it this morning and it was so rad to see some of his stuff. One of his posts was from when he came to shoot photos of me shooting photos with the Revolution boys skateboarding in the drains in Roodepoort. He has a photo of me shooting this photo below. Set

Monday, February 11th, 2008

I was shooting with Seth on saturday and we got some awesome stuff together. During the shoot though, there was one frame that I kept getting when he never landed the trick and I couldn’t stop laughing because it always looked like he was a crazy punk rocker guy trying to be a ninja break dancer. I kept a bunch of the stills and have put a few of them below. I hope you like.

Seth is a super good skateboarder and I love his style and the way he makes it looks so easy when he does it. I am hoping that the stuff will make it into the next session magazine but I will keep you posted on that.Seth Campbell skateboarding in edenvale johannesburg photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

Dean Marais

Friday, February 1st, 2008

I shot some photographs with my buddy Dean the other day but things just weren’t working out. He wasn’t feeling it and kept on moaning and it just was one of those days. I quite like the scene of this photograph but the trick isn’t big enough to make it to print. Anyway, Dean is an awesome guy that skateboards like a champion with the smoothest style in the world. It’s always fun hanging out with him. I will be shooting with him again soon.Dean Marais skateboarding at the Spar in Eastleigh photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

JP Du Preez is Rock and Roll

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

I shot a conversation styled article with JP Du Preez that is featured in the current issue of Session Skateboarding Magazine. I love shooting with JP and just hanging out with him, he is one of my favourite skateboarders ever, and honestly one of the nicest guys ever. No one has more fun on a board than him and it’s amazing just watching him do what he does. Go buy the magazine now, it’s really a rad issue and goes off shelves in the next few days. Anyway, these are the photo’s that are featured of him as well as a few that I really like. Keep an eye out for JP, he’s going to make it huge.

Uncle Rudi

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Haha, I shot some more photos just for the hell of it yesterday with Uncle Rudi. The skate one is really cool and I kind of like the portrait one too. It was just a spur of the moment to turn around and flash him in the face so the flash I was holding in my hand is quite a bit overexposed but it does look quite cool anyway.Rudi Jeggle skateboarding and portrait photographed by Marcus MaschwitzRudi Jeggle skateboarding and portrait photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

Mozi Rocks

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

I shot this photo at the end of last year on a Revolution road trip that we went on to Durban. We stayed at Jays house and he let us ride in his empty pool and Moses ripped it up as always. I forgot about this photo but really like it a lot.Moses Adams rock and rolling in the deep end of a swimming pool photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

Session Issue 27

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Braxton Haines is 13 years old and knows how to ride a skateboard better than you could imagine. He was interviewed in issue 27 of Session Skateboarding Magazine which is going to be coming off shelves now. I shot 90% of his article for the magazine and it consisted of 6 of the images below. I am really stoked for their next issue that is going to be coming out now as it will feature quite a bit more of my work which I am really stoked about. Keep your eyes peeled, it’s going to be a good one for sure.

Oom Jeggle

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

I shot some photographs of Rudi skateboarding on Friday and Saturday during my sit-out session and really like these two. I shot them at Skate World in Edenvale and just tested out some different lighting techniques.

Jude Capel

Monday, September 17th, 2007

I stayed with my friend Jude in London at the beginning of this month and we went skating one day near his house at this concrete mini ramp. It was quite a rad little place with people playing basketball and just hanging out. Anyway, I shot these two photos of him. Makes me remember the super time we had together.

Wooden Toy Magazine

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

I shot a KFD tour a while back and some of the photos were published in an Australian magazine called Wooden Toy. It is such an amazing magazine and it just gets better and better as months go by. These are just four of the shots that were featured and I really like them a lot and the way that the guys printed them. If you can get a copy of Wooden Toy Magazine, do yourself a favour. If not, just go skating and have fun.

Oom Jeggle

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Did a little skating tonight with Uncle Rudi and it felt good again especially skating our secret spot where no one will kick us out. Shot a few photos cause I don’t really have any of Rudi so the plan is to shoot more with him soon. I am off to bed now, so this is me ………. out!

Claymation Station

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

For some weird reason, I have never shot photos with Clayton skating. I love the way he does so it really is quite dumb. We skated with the locals now on our trip and I shot some photos of him skating and it was really rad pushing ourselves and just chilling with the locals. We met a few and they were such cool guys. Again, there are a bunch of these but I just randomly selected these ones. I love the colours. Been trying some new stuff and am liking the results. Hoping to shoot more with him soon.

Session Issue 25

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Ok, this is crazy that Moses gets 3 posts in a row but I thought I should post the interview that he had in Session Magazines Issue 25. I never wanted to post it before as I wanted to wait until the magazine comes off shelf so that everyone stays happy. 7 of these were used in the article and I forgot how good they were until I looked again now. It has to be said that this was all shot within 2 half days. Machine I tell you.

Sunrise Ollie

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

I shot this photo of Braxton yesterday morning at around 7:15am which is insane considering how cold it is and how little sleep I have been getting. Anyway, we had to go early so that we don’t get kicked out and to avoid traffic and people. Braxton ended up tripping over his own feet pushing to this so his session here ended really quickly but this photo is quite cool of him ollie-ing the gap.

G Town Bowl

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Shot some photos yesterday for the next Session issue and had quite a fun time with the boys. These two are from Germiston Bowl where we arent ever really welcome by the locals but we all had a good time. Love the colour of these.

Greenstone Session

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

I shot this photo skating the new mall with Rudi. It’s not what I pictured it to be like so I never continued shooting. It came out quite cool though.

Broke Foot

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

This really isn’t an amazing / creative photo but I just find it to be one of the most shocking I have ever shot. This was a while back of a guy who snapped his ankle skateboarding. Makes me so glad I have never done that.

Mozi went to Jozi

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

I am going to Cape Town this weekend to shoot an interview with Moses Adams for the next Session Magazine and I am super excited. I love that little guy and just enjoy watching him skate so much. I really feel privelleged that I am getting to shoot with him. Anyway, this is an old photograph I shot when Mozi was in Jozi a while back and I just like the way it looks. Will keep you up to speed as we progress on the shoot. Have a good one, Marcus

My Setup

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

Ok, as random as this may seem, I have had this idea in my head to shoot my board and shoe/s together on the floor for some time. It really has been something I keep thinking about at a weird and inconvenient time so it just hasn’t happened yet. Anyway, this is it, finally and I like it. Just my board and shoes shot with natural light on a rough concrete floor and my trusty 50mm lens. It’s simply just skateboarding.

1000 Drawings

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

For those of you who don’t know, tomorrow is the Night of 1000 Drawings exhibition. It is all for a charity and definitely the coolest way to raise money ever. Basically people submitted drawings, photos and just other random art peices on A5 and they will be sold for R100 and the money will be used to purchase a bakkie for the charity. You can read more about it all on their blog at http://1000drawings.blogspot.com but anyway, these are the ones I submitted. Whoo hoo.

Children of the Damned Portraits

Monday, November 13th, 2006

During December last year (2005), I joined the Revolution / KFD Team for a skateboard tour and I shot these portraits of the team in the Johannesburg warehouse at the start of it. I liked these photographs a lot and decided to post them because in a few weeks we will be touring again and this stuff gets me excited for it all.
