A few weeks ago the guys over at Quint Magazine contacted me about featuring my work in their next issue which would be known as their music issue. I flipped through a few copies of the magazine and really liked what they were doing so I agreed and today the magazine hit the shelves. Currently the magazine is only available in Dubai (stocked in all Virgin Megastores) but is also available to read for free online.
I answered a few questions about what it is like working as a music photographer here in London and you can read all about it from page 56 of issue 12. Read it for free here. The rest of the magazine is very cool too so give it a full read. I feel really grateful for this so “thanks guys”.

I’ve worked with the guys from After The Ordeal quite a few times and on our last shoot I decided to test one of my “new” OLD Yashica’s by shooting off a roll of 120.
I love this shot.

One of my favourite things is shooting on 120 film but unfortunately the last bunch of scans have been really terrible and it’s put me off completely. I’ve tried a few different stores and all of them say they work only in high res so I send films off, wait a week (or two) and then I pay (a lot) and get home only to find crappy quality low resolution scans. It sucks and in the 3 years I’ve been here I haven’t found one place that actually does it right.
Anyway, I had a shoot with El Wood the other day for Beau & Arrow (will post more later) and I shot off a few 120′s to finish a roll and this reminded me that I need to push to find a proper place to scan these for me in future so I can use it more. Film is rad because you don’t have to edit … I love that.
If anyone has any ideas or recommendations of a place that I should be using then PLEASE do let me know.

I worked with an artist a while ago that goes by the name of Saskilla and it was a great shoot to work on with some very cool results.
One of the images from the shoot is currently on his site promoting the launch of his website. I thought I’d share. Artwork by Urban Media.

I have some really cool people that follow my work and keep me updated by sending me screengrabs / scans of my work and where it’s been featured. I love that. Lately I have gotten a few of bands that I have worked with using my photos on their music player so I thought I would post a few.
These are for After The Ordeal, The Wild Archive, Dear Reader, Band Of King and Just Me Again.

I was lucky to work again with the talented, Berlin based, Dear Reader on the promo photos to support the up coming release of Idealistic Animals and as always it was a pleasure.
The cover for the record has just been released so I thought I would share it. I have heard the tracks and cannot wait for this album to get out.

I turned 29 today and it was a good day. Been wanting to shoot a self portrait of myself and push myself in terms of the style of the photo so I thought today would be a good day to try that. It’s dark and distorted but this is the result … I like it lots.
Happy birthday me.

Another one of my photos that I shot with the guys from Don Broco were used on a flyer.
The quality of this one is a bit washed out but it’s the best one I got sent.
Amazing guys, check them out.

The guys from Just Me Again are one of my favourite bands to work with because they really are a laugh a minute … in saying that they are one of the most excited bunch of musicians I have ever met. They aren’t just playing music to be in a band but rather playing because it’s the only thing in the world that they want to do. They are a super nice bunch of guys and I love witnessing how much they have grown since we first worked together in 2009. This is still only the start for them I think.
These are a few grabs of images where they have used my photos that we shot the last time in studio together. Check them out, they deserve the support.

On Saturday I got to spend time with my special friends (the Zanin’s) and their beautiful little girl who really has moved on from a baby and now has the most personality since the day she was born. She’s amazing and so cute and I love how much she has impacted my friends lives and how much she loves them and even more how much it shows their love for each other.
I shot some photos in the dark of her just hanging out and rocking on her little keyboard. Thought they work well as black and whites.

I constantly get emails asking how I shoot and what my setup is when I work on a photo shoot and it’s impossible for me to reply to every single email especially because I am actually a photographer and not a teacher or admin guru. I thought that for this reason I would post another setup blog from a shoot I did with the super cool guys from a band called Don Broco up in Bedfordshire.
The guys were a flippen bunch of laughs but in a good way. Had a lot of fun working with them.
Anyway, the one location we shot at was next to a lake with the sun setting in the back. This is what the final photo looked like.

I used a 3 light setup for this shoot roughly placed in these positions (don’t hold me to the exact distances and angles) and the ring light is actually meant to represent my beauty dish but this app didn’t have that as an option. Haha.

All lighting is supplied by Profoto packs (Pro-7b and AcuteB to be exact). I took a photo with my iPhone of the setup in pretty much the same position as we shot. As you can see the sky actually looked like that and I never added in or edited the sky to make it look how it does in the final. Just some good lighting and a bit of tweaking on curves, levels, contrast, sharpness and colouring well importing the RAWS and obviously a few slight cosmetic clean-ups.

Not sure if this benefits anyone at all but it’s up anyway for those of you that care.
Make sure to check these guys out. They are super fun and worth supporting.
Currently listening to : Bullet For My Valentine – Fever.

A few months ago I had a photo shoot with the very cool guys of Night By Night. This was one of my favourite shoot’s this year because of the effort from the guys and I think that we got some amazing shots from the day.
Anyway, the guys have just relaunched their Myspace and used one of my photos as the header for it.
Check them out, it will be well worth it.

I recently finished off the photos I shot with the guys from Just Me Again and they have just used one of them to promote their Christmas Party they are having on the 17th of December at The Borderline.
