A few weeks ago the guys over at Quint Magazine contacted me about featuring my work in their next issue which would be known as their music issue. I flipped through a few copies of the magazine and really liked what they were doing so I agreed and today the magazine hit the shelves. Currently the magazine is only available in Dubai (stocked in all Virgin Megastores) but is also available to read for free online.
I answered a few questions about what it is like working as a music photographer here in London and you can read all about it from page 56 of issue 12. Read it for free here. The rest of the magazine is very cool too so give it a full read. I feel really grateful for this so “thanks guys”.
I’ve worked with the guys from After The Ordeal quite a few times and on our last shoot I decided to test one of my “new” OLD Yashica’s by shooting off a roll of 120.
Last year I worked with Colin Pollock on a few portraits as well as a few shots of him busy in studio. He’s super talented and I really enjoyed working with him. He’s playing a one-off show at Hoxton Hall that you should definitely check out.
This is the flyer with one of the shots I took in studio.
The guys from Does It Offend You, Yeah? worked on a studio project with Macbeth on their own Pendleton shoe which comes out pretty soon. I photographed the campaign and Macbeth have just released a teaser shot of the shoe so I thought I would share it. Amazing band and great company … check them both out.
I photographed Face to Face playing the Kingston Peel on Tuesday night and the guys over at Banquet Records have used one of the images on their flyers to promote upcoming New Noise evenings that they run. Great band, Great show and amazing Records Store. Check them out. You can also see a few more of my shots from the night HERE.
I have some really cool people that follow my work and keep me updated by sending me screengrabs / scans of my work and where it’s been featured. I love that. Lately I have gotten a few of bands that I have worked with using my photos on their music player so I thought I would post a few.
These are for After The Ordeal, The Wild Archive, Dear Reader, Band Of King and Just Me Again.
I’ve worked with the boys from What Now a few times now and it’s always a pleasure. Their music is catchy as hell and they work super hard to be tight.
I just got sent another flyer where they used one of my photos. I like it.
My friends in Young Guns have their biggest tour coming up next month and it’s going to be incredible. They just sent me the artwork for their tour poster / flyer featuring the new logo and one of the photos I shot with Gustav when they played at Brixton Academy last time round.
I can’t wait for this. Make sure to get on down. They are explosive live.
I was lucky to work again with the talented, Berlin based, Dear Reader on the promo photos to support the up coming release of Idealistic Animals and as always it was a pleasure.
The cover for the record has just been released so I thought I would share it. I have heard the tracks and cannot wait for this album to get out.
The guys from The Spindle Sect have just relaunched their website and have used a few of the photos that I shot of them recently and I think it looks really cool.
I just got sent a really cool flyer using one of the photos I shot with the boys from What Now. The flyer is for their tour that they just finished up in May and I love how it came out.
These guys are super nice and their tracks are great. Make the effort to check them out.
The guys in Just Me Again have just announced another tour for later in the year and the poster / flyer for it has one of the photos I shot with them in studio. I like the way it came out.
I went on tour with the boys from We Are The Ocean for a few days (London, Bristol and Stoke) to promote the release of their latest album and I photographed and video’d the tour as it went on. The guys are super nice and I love working with them so it was a great time together.
This video is just some of that footage.
The album is called GO NOW AND LIVE and track playing through this video is from the album and it is ‘Overtime Is A Crime’. Make sure to get a copy of it … it’s a cracker.
Some of the photos from the tour can be seen HERE.
The boys from Don Broco have a full page feature in the current issue of Rocksound along with my photograph which came out really cool.
I loved working with these guys and know that their journey is kick-starting properly so make sure to check them out and support their music. Their tour starts soon and it’s definitely worth checking out.
Just busy going through the tear sheets that I have been sent and there is another really cool one from a shoot I did for Criminal Damage with Ryan Stripe of the band Rio.
The guys from Just Me Again are one of my favourite bands to work with because they really are a laugh a minute … in saying that they are one of the most excited bunch of musicians I have ever met. They aren’t just playing music to be in a band but rather playing because it’s the only thing in the world that they want to do. They are a super nice bunch of guys and I love witnessing how much they have grown since we first worked together in 2009. This is still only the start for them I think.
These are a few grabs of images where they have used my photos that we shot the last time in studio together. Check them out, they deserve the support.
Last year I worked with the guys from The Wild Archive while they were recording and working on their debut album which I love. The guys are really cool and they have just played their first show together which I sadly missed. They used 2 of the photos shot during their recording time to market the show. These are them.
I work with Criminal Damage quite a lot and it’s always a good time. I just got sent a few things of where the photo’s were used so thought I would post them on here.
The boys from We Are The Ocean have just release their first single (What It Feels Like) off their 2nd album which is dropping soon. The track is amazing and free to download from their website so do that now.
They used a photo I shot of Alfie that I took during their show at Kings College from the end of last year and I love how it came out.
Keep watching these guys, album two is going to be epic.
Not too long ago I shot a bunch of portraits with the guys from Don Broco for them to use on their upcoming press runs and it was a proper laugh working with the guys. They are super fun.
They just announced their headline tour for next year and used one of the photos we shot in it so I thought I thought I would post it.
I constantly get emails asking how I shoot and what my setup is when I work on a photo shoot and it’s impossible for me to reply to every single email especially because I am actually a photographer and not a teacher or admin guru. I thought that for this reason I would post another setup blog from a shoot I did with the super cool guys from a band called Don Broco up in Bedfordshire.
The guys were a flippen bunch of laughs but in a good way. Had a lot of fun working with them.
Anyway, the one location we shot at was next to a lake with the sun setting in the back. This is what the final photo looked like.
I used a 3 light setup for this shoot roughly placed in these positions (don’t hold me to the exact distances and angles) and the ring light is actually meant to represent my beauty dish but this app didn’t have that as an option. Haha.
All lighting is supplied by Profoto packs (Pro-7b and AcuteB to be exact). I took a photo with my iPhone of the setup in pretty much the same position as we shot. As you can see the sky actually looked like that and I never added in or edited the sky to make it look how it does in the final. Just some good lighting and a bit of tweaking on curves, levels, contrast, sharpness and colouring well importing the RAWS and obviously a few slight cosmetic clean-ups.
Not sure if this benefits anyone at all but it’s up anyway for those of you that care.
Make sure to check these guys out. They are super fun and worth supporting.
Currently listening to : Bullet For My Valentine – Fever.
A few months ago I had a photo shoot with the very cool guys of Night By Night. This was one of my favourite shoot’s this year because of the effort from the guys and I think that we got some amazing shots from the day.
Anyway, the guys have just relaunched their Myspace and used one of my photos as the header for it.
My friends from Zebra and Giraffe are endorsed by Fender and have just become a featured artist on their site. They used a bunch of my photos of the guys and it looks really cool so check it out here.
