Sunset at iKhaya Wilderness

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

I am busy working through the photographs I shot earlier this month at my clients guest house that is opening up soon in Wilderness. The place is going to be called iKhaya and like I said before, I cannot give away too much before the site goes live but I couldn’t wait to post some images of the sunset that we experienced on our first day there. These two were taken with in about two hours of each other and right now the only problem I see is that I am not there right now enjoying that view but instead sitting in my office. Awesome. iKhaya Wilderness is amazing and I will let you know when the site goes live because you have to check it out.

I just want to add that my D3 is a beast. I love her. Haha

Happy Soweto

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

I have just joined a stock images resource website that is launching soon called Ticky Box Images. The peeps that are heading this up seem super cool and after meeting with them yesterday, I started thinking carefully of all the photographs I have taken over the years and I remembered this one that I shot last year in Soweto.

Lance Armstrong was here to launch Unite for Health and I was commissioned to shoot photographs for media. Personally, I was really upset that Lance was a bit of a chop. He walked through Soweto like a movie star with sunglasses on and never even greeted the children who were there to welcome him. They were singing songs for him while he walked down the red carpet. This bugged the hell out of me so I just started shooting photographs of the children instead and I remember getting into trouble for concentrating on the wrong subject but I did have a lot of fun.

This photo is of me being bombarded by a bunch or rad little children, majority of whom were super sick. I kept showing them what they looked like on the camera (thanks to digital) and they all wanted to see at the same time so I would show them and then shoot another and then show them again. This is just me turning the camera over and shooting while they were trying to see the screen. You can see me in the bottom right corner.

That was a fun day and a day that I got a lot of respect for Gerry Rantseli because she was right there with the children, not a bit bothered by trying to be a celebrity.A group of happy children at a food shelter in Soweto photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

Izak Davel

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Still busy sorting through my drives and found these photographs I shot last year for an interview / editorial of Izak Davel. He plays the role of Scab in the TV show Egoli. A photograph from this set was printed as a full page in the final issue, for 2007, of Heat Magazine in an article about him being voted the hottest guy in South Africa. Being a guy, I cannot personally vote on that but he was a really cool down to earth person with no big head about who he is. Working with quite a few celebrities, it’s always good to meet people like this.Izak Davel plays Scab in the tv show Egoli place of gold photographed by Marcus MaschwitzIzak Davel plays Scab in the tv show Egoli place of gold photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

Ride Authority Back In 2006

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Wow, this is quite a lot time ago. I purchased a new external hard drive yesterday so that I can back up all my stuff and lock it in my gun safe so that I have it all incase anything happens.

Anyway, I came across these photographs that I shot with the guys from Ride Authority back in about 2006. I really enjoyed the time I spent with these guys and just email Nick now to arrange to shoot with him soon. Nick is doing super well riding overseas and it’s always rad for me when good people do well.

Pepi

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

I just got back from a photo shoot that I did with the guys from the band Bloodline Ltd and I am super happy with the results. The photographs are being used for their upcoming album which will be hitting stores soon so I don’t want to put any of the pics up until the album and the marketing is out but I really like this shot of Pepi (the drummer) a lot so I am posting this one until then. Bloodline Ltd is hardcore and the album is going to be amazing. I cannot wait.Pepi is the drummer from Bloodline Ltd which is an amazing South African Hardcore band photographed by Marcus Maschwitz

My good friends, Warren and Andrea, are relocating to London tomorrow for a while. It’s super sad to say good bye to them but I know they are going to have the best time ever. I cannot wait to go over again and hang out with them in a place that I love so much. Be safe guys, going to miss you. x

JP Du Preez Video Profile

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

This is just quick post because we recently made a video profile on JP, and it has been posted on YouTube, so I wanted to let you know. JP is a super fun skateboarder and the profile worked out really good. I shot this photograph while on road trip a few months back and kind of forgot about it but thought it would be perfect for this post. It was taken on a railway line on the way to Klerksdorp with the KFD Skateboard crew.

Wilderness Sunset

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

The main reason we went down to the Garden Route was because I am working on a project for an amazing guesthouse that is in the progress of starting up in Wilderness called iKhaya. This day the sunset was incredible and I am only going to post this one photograph now until everything for this client is complete as I don’t want to give away too much just yet.

On a different note, I tested out my new Nikon D3 camera a bit on this trip and am quite amazed by the results. Still getting used to it but so far I am extremely happy but again poor for a while.
